Holiday Gift Guide for Book Lovers

It takes time and effort to find that perfect gift. It is hard to figure out what to get the person who has everything. Books make an ideal gift. They are modest in cost, and their topics vary. First, determine the person’s interests so you can figure out what they might want to read. What are their hobbies? Do they like to cook, hunt, or run? Books make splendid gifts because they are affordable, life-giving, and share a wealth of knowledge.

When determining a book to purchase for someone, figure out what is going on in that person’s life? Did they just acquire a pet, move, or are they super busy? Do they need ways to relax or destress? This list of books will help you find the best book for your loved one.

  • American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins is a #1 New York Times bestseller and Oprah’s book club pick. This well-written, intense story about a mother and son chased by a Mexican drug cartel will broaden your perspective about immigrants. I no longer have the same viewpoint about immigration laws.

  • Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty became an Emmy award-winning HBO series. Life is messy, and the characters in this novel experience domestic violence, date rape, and a myriad of other problems. Ultimately someone gets killed at a grade school parent event. The lives of the parents weave together until you understand who died and why.

  • Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens is a #1 New York Times bestseller. The story takes you back several decades to the Carolina coast where a young girl living in poverty is left to raise herself in the swamp. The twist and turns of this book make it incredibly interesting. I could never have guessed the ending. I appreciated the backwoods main character; she felt true to life.

  • Camino Island by John Grisham is another #1 New York Times bestseller. This mystery revolves around the theft of several priceless F. Scott Fitzgerald manuscripts. Where they end up and how the mystery is solved keeps you turning pages. I enjoyed the well-defined characters. Some of them were hilarious, others were likable even though they were dealing in the black market.

  • The Vanishing Half  by Brit Bennett is a #1 New York Times bestseller. This story is about two twin sisters: one sister secretly passes for white, the other lives with her black daughter in the small southern town she tried to escape from. You will find out what happened to this city that cut it off from the rest of the world two hundred years ago. Fall into the mythical world of dread and wonder.

  • The Things You Find in Rock Pools by Greg Dunnett is a psychological mystery and suspense thriller. I enjoyed the narration from an eleven-year-old boy’s perspective. He’s a little young to play detective, but he finds the dead girl’s hair clip in the back of his dad’s truck. Could his dad be the murderer? Read it to find out.
